February 2 is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, more commonly known as Candlemas. On Candlemas, we celebrate the Holy Family’s presentation of Christ in the Jewish Temple and their offering of a thanksgiving sacrifice to God, in accord with Jewish Law.
As is tradition, we will have a blessing of candles at all the Masses Sunday 2-2-2025
This blessing reminds us of the Holy Family’s sacrifice in the Temple, as such sacrifices were offered to God by burning them on the temple’s altar. If you would like to have your candle(s) blessed, please bring them to Mass with you.
We will also have a Candlemas party after the Spanish Mass in the St. Mary church hall. This party will include food and piñatas for the children. Traditionally, the food is provided by those who found the Child Jesus in their piece of Three Kings Bread on Epiphany. If you would like to bring a dish, please bring it with you to the party.
